Two Nations Poised

Monday greets the world with two nations poised on the brink of war. The time for judging right and wrong is over. Either there will be a war, or the US will get what it wants.

OMG, I Posted on SPORTS!

Because I thought it was pretty crazy, I wanted to say that Mike Tyson knocked out Clifford Etienne in 49 seconds... and that is apparently not the quickest match he's ever had. Check out the article on si.com (even if you don't care, because I don't but I looked anyway).

A conundrum

Wired wonders whether the chick is a Windows user or a Linux user since she graces both the Linux Expo site and the M$ .Net site...

Not Quite Quickies, but...

AP has word that RIAA and Silicon Valley are making negotiations that, somehow, don't seem to benefit much of anything. SV will lobby for the right of RIAA to use hacker (aka DoS) tactics on users pirating music (so long as it doesn't hurt stored data, the network, or invade privacy) and lobby for explicit definition of "fair use", while the RIAA will quit pushing for required DRM (thus, shafting Palladium... ouch).

LQG

"Physicist Fotini Markopoulou Kalamara has developed a way to connect relativity with quantum theory--while making sure that cause still precedes effect." The theory combines the two theories, AND allows for some concept of non-static time. At least from what I can tell...

Sesame Street HIV

Sesame Street is going to introduce a muppet with HIV to viewers in "AIDS-ravaged" South Africa. Upon hearing the news, Republican Lawmakers got their panties in a wad and quickly responded that the character would not be welcome in America, claiming that the 2 to 4 year old audience wouldn't be mature enough to handle the concept of HIV. The show would make no mention of sex in relation to the muppets disease.

British Pot

It looks like the UK is moving a step in a positive direction concerning the use of marijuana by relaxing laws on the personal consumption of the plant. No longer will people be arrested for having "discrete" amounts of the drug.

4 Days A Week

I was going to talk about how Lewis beat Tyson, even though I didn't watch it, but that was until I found out South Dakota, along with Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Louisiana, and some other states, have school districts that run on four school days a week.

How Wrong is This?

At Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego, teachers and administrators "lifted the skirts of teenage girls at a dance in front of men and male classmates to make sure they were wearing 'appropriate' underwear." Despite the fact that thongs DON'T violate the dress code, they still checked, and had no qualms with openly and spontaneously pulling down tube tops to see if bras were being worn. I'm sure this violates SOME law.

Cutters

Apparently, people are coming around to those that cut themselves instead of talking. The CNN article is still looking at them like they are alien despite the fact they are trying to convince the reader that it is a common practice (Fav. Quote: "She's used everything from broken glass and staples to her own fingernails to draw blood on her arm, belly and hip -- inexplicably, all on her left side." I've got an idea why they are all on her left side... Because she is probably right handed... idiots).
