Who are we?

Why is "somethingHollow" here at all, when there are a hundred identical discussion boards out there? Clearly it's because we feel that we would get lost in the noise of someone else's forum... but why do we want to speak at all? who is listening, and why??

new MP3, or new VQF?

Thanks to an uber-techno geek living downstairs (f34r his 1337 skillz), I have taken an extreme interest in Ogg Vorbis. Perhaps I was giving my ears too much credit before, but I honestly cannot tell a difference between the OGG files and the MP3's I was encoding before - and there is a significant reduction in file size. This might not matter if you only have a couple gigs of music; but when you have 54 like I do, it does make a difference. It also has a very nice tag system - it has all the benefits of ID3 V2 (long song names, etc) without all the extra stuff no one ever uses (producer & original artist? Who *ever* fills those in??). I remember when Yamaha's VQF was supposed to be the next MP3... but we all know what happened there. Eh, VQF didn't sound as good anyways. But to these ears, OGG does. So hopefully I'm not making a mistake by switching to OGG. Enjoy.

State of the Union

Did anyone watch the state of the union address thing last night? I wanted to watch it and see if there is anything interesting to know about that's going on in our country. Like if we are gonna blow up next week or something. But stuff came up. But if anyone watched it or reads anything worth knowing let me know. Thanx.

Bye Bye WIndows 95 and Others

On a somber note, Windows 95 is going into non-supported phase November 30th, 2001. Fare the well, Windows 95. You were more stable than 98, but have far lass features than Windows 2000.

Reward the Faithful

In Bart Ehrman's The New Testament, the author explains that Jesus was an apocalyptic fellow. He constantly preached and taught of a second coming, for which no one would be prepared except the faithful. On page 232, Ehrman says, "The earliest Christians were Jews who believed that they were living at the end of the age and that Jesus himself was to return from heaven as a cosmic judge of the earth to punish those who opposed God and to reward the faithful."

To draft or not to draft?

Who's going to fight should "push come to shove"? The military reserves have been called in, something could be up. If the US is out of people to fight are you going to go? I'll fight. I mean, you only live once, but 20 years! That's a long time, I'm not getting younger. On the other hand I have heard that they "firing squad" you for running.....unless you make it all the way out. Then you can come back and run for Chief in Command! and then party in the White House! But chances are slim, and a fighting I will go if they write...............but in till then I'm definitely studying harder......full-time schooling from now till it's over. I recommend the same to anyone who is not overly eager about combat. I'm not wanting to fight, but if they need.....What about you guys? Any thoughts?

AOL is Evil

so... according to ABC News the AOL/ Time Warner conglomerate is attempting to buy and/ or merge with AT&T's cable division... this will make them a mega-corporation (i just coined a new buzz word, i need to call the Laywers and get it copyrighted) that holds a massive share of the market.

Rap Music

I just thought that it was about time somebody put somewhat of a debate topic on here. And I thought that rap music would be a good one. What do you think about it. Do you like or dislike it and why. Personally I hate rap music. I honestly see no artistic value in the music what so ever. Yet some people are obsessed with this crap. Why. I want to see all opposing views

Ban Sex Appeal

I recently found out that NOW, National Organization for Women, and the coalition for the Concerned Christians of America have united. Joining towards the boycott of Abercrombie and Fitch, based on their last edition of A&F Quarterly. Michelle Dewlen, president of the Chicago chapter of the National Organization for Women faults the catalogue for 'promoting unrealistic body types' and showing images evoking group sex. It seems funny to me, though. From everything I've gathered, the people who wear A&f seem to be some of the most conservative people, amongst other things, I've met. So what I say is let them do what they want. Doesn't every popular band in the world stress the same importance of sex appeal through music videos in only featuring kids at near-anorexic sizes and, accordingly, wearing skimpy as possible outfits. Good news for A&Fthe more publicity this issue draws the more the kids will be looking for the closest store.

Pres. Bush

Does it piss anybody else off that President Bush has crossed the line separating church and state? If he continues at the rate he's going, the line will not exist. I was a Bush supporter until I realized how faith-based he was towards Christianity. I'm not a Bush supporter anymore, but I certainly would never say I would rather have had Al Gore....

I think

I think people have evolved far past what current government is capable of. Like you said, all current government is shit. Do you think there could be anything today that would keep us in line? Keep all diversities happy? It seems rather hard to try to cope with everybody's mindset. Just a thought

Freedom

Where do you draw the lines for freedom? We live in a free country? Right? How would you actually describe a free man? I just don't understand how we can consider ourselves lucky by living in a "free country". Are we labeled as free by our country, then we're free?
