A Rant: Two Things I'm Tired Of

Recently, there have been a slough of "25 Great Whatevers" or "15 Awesome Ways To Do Something." Smashing Magazine does this constantly, and SitePoint is guilty, too. Many of these articles aggregate links to the same tired sites and tout some little nook of it as very well done. I mean, how many times do I have to look at Avalon Star? Jeeeeesus.

Photoshop Niggles

I, like most designers, have been using Photoshop for years. I watched as they added Save For Web (which became Save For Web and Devices) and layer styles. One thing that I have always loved about Photoshop is that I can sample a color and copy the hex value out of the color picker. One thing that has always pissed me off about Photoshop is that not all color picker windows allow copy / paste hex values. Specifically, the matte in Save For Web and the various color pickers for layer styles lack this.

PageMinder, Copyright Infringer

A copyright infringing website called PageMinder ripped off my content (that is, took my copyrighted material without my permission) AND outranked me in Google SERPs for the term domaindesignshop.com. That sucks. I posted a comment to tell them that I found them. They changed the comment to a link back with a rel="nofollow". Gee. Thanks. What an asshole. If you want to help me feel better, link to my article that they stole. Maybe I can recoup some rank.

OMFG Yahoo!

I just went to weather.com to check the forecast, and Yahoo has an ad with sound. It is so fucking annoying to navigate to a page while playing music, then have your web browser blare out some commercial and not provide a mute button. I'm going to e-mail weather.com.
