 I always forget this mySQL function, so I figured I should make note of it somewhere.  It&#8217;s called <a href="http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/string-functions.html#function_find-in-set">FIND_IN_SET</a>.  You specify a variable and a list of possible matches and it returns the position of the string in the list.  It&#8217;s very helpful for sorting things in a defined list provided by the client.</p>
