When I posted this, I was listening to: Darkness - Love is Only A Feeling
There is always some amount of construction going on in Los Angeles. Since L.A. isn't confined by natural borders, the first inclination was to sprawl. This is why L.A. is so large, and is slowly assimilating areas that used to be distinct towns (e.g. Hollywood, Santa Monica, Compton). Essentially all of L.A. county is part of L.A. city, as far as I can tell. When New York City hit its boundaries, it started growing vertically upwards. L.A. seems to take a different approach. All the building projects I've seen recently grow vertically downward before they grow upward...
I've started the essential parts of re-developing this site for the last time. I know, I know... I said that LAST time. I'm never one to be inefficient, and there are features I programmed into my blog that I've never used. Further, there are features that I wanted that I didn't build in. For several reasons, I decided to recode it. I got the mod_rewrite stuff take care of. I've got to figure out a caching tool and re-work the archives before I can get started with the fun stuff, though. This might be months in the making, as was the current version.
I got a new phone today when I switched to Cingular from AT&T. It's a Sony Ericsson s710a. It's got a 1.3 megapixel camera taken from the Sony CyberShot phones (read: moblog soon), takes Sony Memory Stick Duo, has MP3 playback, does Java, and more. This is the first really convergent device I've gotten. I think the strong point is the camera. Oh, it's a "twisty" phone. It's a neat form factor. It retails for $400, but I got it for $200.
I haven't really had a chance to play with it. I've transfered files with Bluetooth, used it as a Bluetooth remote control for my computer (cool), and looked at the settings. I can't seem to get it to work with iSync, which really sucks. I bought it because Apple claims it is compatible. I know there is a way, since people have done it. I just can't seem to get it. At any rate, the photos are great, and it works with my Nokia Bluetooth hands free kit. So, I can't bitch too much. Oh, and if you want to make your own custom theme for the Sony Ericsson s710, you have to register on their developer site and download their theme builder (off of which is free).
I also ordered a K&N drop-in replacement air filter for the '8. Those motherfuckers... twice it has had shipping exceptions of The package was missed, no attempt was made to deliver as scheduled.
Whatever the fuck that means. They did say 5-7 business days for delivery, but it's coming from Anaheim! That is a 45 minute drive, ignoring traffic! Fuckers.
I hate that I always mention alcohol in the posts... Guess it's part of the landscape. Anyway, Tammy went with me to get alcohol for the weekend. Reunity Lambrusco on sale at BevMo for 2.99 for .75 L, so I got 4 bottles. Tammy spotted a vodka that we'd never seen in stores. She served it a Pearl when she worked there for $400 a bottle (that comes with full, personal bar service from hotties). It's called Wyborowa. It's Polish, apparently. It's very smooth and tasteless with a small burn in the aftertaste. It sells in BevMo, usually, for as much as Vox. It's slightly better than Vox, but lacks the sweetness of Vox and replaces it with... well... nothing.
Since I thought it was fun, here is a conversation I had via e-mail with Erin via e-mail.

I'm falling asleep today. Even the coffee isn't helping.

Welcome to my world. At least you know how to fix Your own damn problems.
From: Robert, To: Erin
I can't get them back. I think I am just plain fucked. This really fucking sucks.
My lesson today: rm -R ./* is so dangerous.
Oh, I got my Mac Mini last week and have been setting it up this week. I accidentally ran an rm -R on the wrong directory and deleted some stuff I backed up. I spent the day trying to restore it, to no avail (Oh, and if you use FileSalvage 4.0 and try to use a pirated serial number from version 3.0, it tries to send an e-mail to developers... it may phone home, too... I dunno ;). But, I was able to find some very nice programs (well... I say nice
). I'm loving Mac OS X 10.4. I thought I'd hate the new Mail.app, but I actually dig the interface. So far, Spotlight hasn't been all that and a bag of chips. It seems a little fickle to me, but I haven't really spent the time. It works nicely on the System Preferences, but Mail.app integration isn't what I thought it would be.
I downloaded cvsFinder, since I was used to Tortoise. It's a good beta version, but lacks tons of features that Tortoise has and the icon overlays only work half the time. It has tons of potential. I wish I had more programming skillz, so I could help. For all you Mac programmers without a project, I'd recommend taking it on. It could be fun.
Also, for mySQL users, the mySQL Control Center for Mac OS X, supposedly compiled with QT/Mac, is a little odd. The right click (or control click) on the hierarchy menu puts the drop down about 100+ pixels up and 100+ pixels to the left of where you click the first time. If you notice your right click not working, drag the window down to the left and right click again. I would suggest using CoCoaMySQL for normal tasks, and using mySQL Control Center for Mac OS X as a fallback.
Oh, and CyberDuck is an ok ftp client. Not nearly as quick as Fetch, but it's gets the job done.

iSync
by Robert on the 30th of July, 2005 at 6:51 PM GMT0. Permalink.Oh, and I got iSync working. In order to add the phone, open iSync, System Preferences>Bluetooth and the Bluetooth Setup Assistant (BTSA).
On the s710, navigate to Menu>Connections>Bluetooth>My Devices>New Device. Add your Mac. While adding, make sure that the BTSA window is focuses. As soon as the paring is complete, go to the BTSA and add the phone. Once it is added, iSync (or some program from the OS) should ask you if you want to add the phone to iSync. This is NOT from the checkbox in the BTSA, as that is grayed out.
I believe that iSync pretends it is a K700...

If the command line could do everything as easily as a GUI, then we wouldn't need GUIs. But, I fully agree, command line is really nice when a GUI just can't do what I need.
