Charlie And Rejects

When I posted this, I was listening to: Nine Inch Nails - Right Were It Belongs

I love L.A. because the speed limit is actually governed by the flow of traffic. The speed limit is as-fast-as-traffic-will-let-you-go-without-scaring-yourself. Sometimes that is 110 MPH. Sometimes it's 5 MPH. It's not like in Alabama where they say go with the flow of traffic but will pull you over for going above the speed limit. That is one reason why I love L.A.

I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory todayyesterday. I was less than impressed. Johnny Depp did a nice job with the character. However, I think a more apt title would have been Willy Wonka Finds His Daddy. Call me a cynic but the whole pro-family ending sucked testicles and detracted from the nonsensical qualities of the story. It wasn't about discovering youth. It was about discovering family. *cough* bullshit *cough*. I look forward to seeing The Devils Rejects to make up for it. I might even wear the shirt Dan gave me. Remember, candy doesn't have to make sense.

I saw The Devil's Rejects today. I can't make up my mind about it. I was expecting a Bonnie-and-Clyde root-for-the-bad-guy film. In order to do that, Rob Zombie would have had to tool the script such that we forget how fucked up the Firefly family is. Beginning with a shootout really caught the attention of the anti-authoritarian in me. But, then the two survivors of the shoot out (plus Captain Spaulding) kidnapped and killed a few people. After that, you kind of lose any human connection with them. I was hoping the group would drop the nutty routine and find clarity while they were under the duress of the get away. It didn't happen. Luckily the good-cop lost his head a little and gave the movie a bad good-guy to root for. I liked the opposition of God and the Devil through the character's beliefs / statements. It was a nice dynamic.
